A devastating collision on Friday night has left a community in grief as a youngster lost his life, and a woman suffered severe injuries. Around 10:35 p.m., police were called to the scene near Gulf Road and Smith Neck Road, responding to a single-vehicle crash with ejections.

Officers found a mangled Honda Accord and two unconscious individuals on the road, prompting immediate action. The male victim, identified as 18-year-old Jacob Pothier of New Bedford, was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford but was declared dead.
