According to authorities and sources, tragedy struck when Iosif Lontsman exited his Subaru Forester to confront a 43-year-old woman in a Nissan Altima about a parking space. The incident occurred at Avenue W and Ocean Avenue in Sheepshead Bay around 4:30 p.m.
Surveillance footage shows Lontsman getting out of his vehicle to confront the other driver over the parking space.
Lontsman exited his car, which he had left in the drive. The car started rolling forward, striking him before eventually coming to a stop when it collided with the Nissan.
Lontsman suffered fatal injuries when his car struck him during a roadside argument with another driver in Brooklyn on April 25.
Lontsman’s grieving son, Mark, mentioned in an interview on Monday that an NYPD official had informed him last week. His father was involved in a dispute over a parking space.
The Lontsman family immigrated to the United States in 1989 from the old Soviet Union in hopes of a better life.
“It was a difficult life for all of us,” he said. “I was still a teenager, as was my brother, so my dad and my mom at the time worked to build a new life in this country.”
Mark, the son of Iosif Lontsman, said his father leaves behind two sons and two grandchildren, who are ages 12 and 7. When his now-late wife was in bad shape, Lontsman took care of her “until her last days” eight years ago.
No one has been arrested yet in connection with the incident.
Iosif Lontsman Cause of Death
First responders reached the scene to find Lontsman suffering severe trauma to his head and body, rendering him unresponsive and unconscious.
They rushed him to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where medical staff pronounced him dead.
