Carlyle Thomas, aged 61, was in a dispute at a Brooklyn gas station on Saturday night. Sadly, this led to his passing. His sudden death shocked friends and family, who remembered him as a good person.
According to a friend of Carlyle’s, on Saturday evening, Thomas received a call warning him that the gas station manager had summoned a tow truck to impound his car.
“He rushed over. As he opened the door of the tow truck, the driver punched him in the head! He fell and hit the pavement. Carlyle suddenly passed away on the spot.”
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Thomas to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m.
This tragic incident occurred outside the Shell gas station at 1143 Clarkson Avenue in Brownsville.
Carlyle’s friends and relatives remembered him as a good person and a prominent figure in the neighborhood. “Around here, he was the neighborhood boss. He knew everyone. From the gas station to 93rd Street, everyone knew him,” said Graham, his nephew. Carlyle worked at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, where he trained and cared for horses.
His stepdaughters revealed that the gas station would charge locals $10 for overnight parking if they couldn’t find street parking. However, Thomas had a rapport with the establishment and sometimes delayed payment until later.
“He’s been here a long time and has a connection with them, so he didn’t pay right away,” explained his step-daughter, Andrele Peter. Upon learning his car was being towed, he went to investigate.
The NYPD reported that the tow truck driver was apprehended at the scene, with charges pending. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
