Officials responded to a report of unexpected passing by East Midlands Rescue Vehicle Administration (EMAS) at a location in Rhymer House, Chalcombe Road, around 8:40 pm on Saturday, 17 February 2024. Police started the investigation into an unexplained death.

On behalf of the coroner’s office, officers will continue to investigate the circumstances of the death at the location for the next few days while a scene guard is in place.

House-to-house inquiries took place on Sunday, February 18, and officers will continue to be in the vicinity for further investigations. They encourage individuals with information or concerns to approach them.

The woman thought to be in her 30s, remains formally unidentified. Authorities conducted a forensic post-mortem on Sunday, February 18. However, they will keep the exact cause of death undisclosed until they receive all test results, including a toxicology report.

Detective Inspector Simon Barnes, the Senior Investigating Officer, stated, “This is a tragic incident in which a woman has sadly lost her life, and our thoughts are firmly with her family and friends at this time.”

“We know incidents of this nature can be a cause of concern within the wider community; however, I would like to reassure members of the public that we are confident this is an isolated incident.”

“We have a team of dedicated officers working at pace to establish what has happened. There will continue to be a police presence in the area over the next few days, and we would encourage anyone who has any information that they believe is relevant to this investigation to please get in touch.”

A 45-year-old Northampton man, arrested on Saturday on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody. Further information will released in due course.
